B. Working with Government School Structure
Girls Education Program at Jhabua
This program is supported by Unicef and covers 50 High Schools and 100 middle schools. It works through 100 community based learning centres spread over the 6 blocks in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.
Jhabua has a tribal population of over 85%, and faces a range of problems related to migration, livelihoods, early marriage, health and education. The dropout rates of girls and boys is one of the highest in the State.
The objective of this program is to prevent dropout and support girls of Government middle schools to complete studies and then motivate and academically strengthen them to continue education at the High school level.
The program builds on our previous collaboration with UNICEF in the district, where we developed a program for ‘Academic Leadership and Supportive Supervision’ while working with cluster and block administrators and teachers to reach students across 1600 primary schools.
Program for Academic Leadership & Supportive Supervision
- Capacity building of teachers to use activity-based and child-centred learning;
- Strengthen educational administration through inputs to block and district education officers;
- Strengthen School Management Committees to support government schools;
- Promote parent groups to create learning atmosphere at home;
- Additionally, we implemented a block-level primary education program for 150 government schools in Rehli (Sagar district), supported by NSE, Mumbai.
